MASTER POINTS & NATIONal GRADING SCHEME

We have tried to work with the NGS for our main evening session on our bridge holidays for a little over a year now, and it has become quite clear that the vast majority of our clients are not interested or do not want this.

We have also uncovered several unique issues using the NGS on our bridge holidays rather than with competitive congress events which the EBU have not been able to resolve to our satisfaction.

We have players that do not want their NGS ranking to be negatively affected when playing holiday bridge or playing with an unknown partner and there are many more that simply are not home union members or interested in collecting points at all.

Over half of our holiday customers are single travellers and many will be playing with completely unknown partners at short notice or not their usual playing partner.

The EBU requires two thirds of players per session to be members and to give us their membership number otherwise the sessions are not applicable anyway.

So, this year we have been seeing a lot of holidays where sessions just simply do not qualify. Although the EBU maintains that NGS is basically a handicap system many players believe that playing with unknown partners especially at short notice will negatively affect their ranking.

At the end of the day we want to protect our holidays at all costs so that they continue to be well organised by EBU trained directors, reasonably competitive but also fun and friendly.

Therefore all holidays starting from the 1st of March 2024 will have EBU master points awarded for all applicable sessions but NGS will no longer be used for any sessions.
